What we do
The Wildland Fire and Fuels Division
is to provide wildfire protection and education to our residents and protect the natural resources within the Lake Tahoe Basin.
The Central Sierra region received about two-thirds of the average precipitation this winter. It is anticipated to be above-normal significant forecast with large fire potential expected in most areas below 6000 feet in June. In July and August, the lower grass-dominated areas will return to normal due to the lack of wind events, while upper elevations experience above-normal significant large fire potential.

The COVID-19 pandemic has complicated this season by adding yet another risk to suppression efforts. Since wildfires are inevitable, fire crews have had to modify suppression tactics and schedules to meet standard operating procedures during the pandemic.
