Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District is constantly looking for qualified and/or interested individuals who embody our core qualities of Care, Professionalism, and Respect; individuals who have a deep desire to serve the public and make a difference in the lives of others. We are particularly interested in individuals with past experience as a paramedic or firefighter, regardless of the setting. While prior experience is desirable, it is certainly not necessary.
TDFPD is unique to other agencies in that we respond to, and mitigate a wide variety of incidents including: EMS calls, structure fires, wildland fires, fire boat responses, technical rope rescues, vehicle extrications, backcountry rescues, EOD calls and water rescues. Tahoe Douglas has a particular desire for individuals motivated to excel in physical fitness, EMS training/education, fire suppression, and other skills, not just in the early years, but for their entire careers.
Candidates who successfully complete our recruitment and training are rewarded with more than a workplace in the beautiful Lake Tahoe Basin. We practice emergency medicine using open-ended protocols developed and maintained by our own paramedics. Of our roughly 2200 incidents per year, we respond to a wide variety of call-types, including opportunities to participate in wildland fire suppression throughout the entire country. Due to the small size of our staff and demands of our District, line-personnel are often tasked with additional duties outside of emergency response, including PPE management and apparatus specification and design. It is important that individuals want to take an active role in more than just their baseline duties.
A career at Tahoe Douglas not only provides a wide range of exciting opportunities to serve our community, but it also provides a starting salary for first year firefighters of $57,265 and firefighter/paramedics of $63,729. The annual salary can be further increased by incentivized accomplishments, overtime, and budgeted training opportunities. The District also provides competitive lifetime benefits, including 100% employer paid NVPERS and healthcare benefits (entire family) through retirement (retiree & spouse). Our salary and benefits are the result of a Collective Bargaining Agreement between TDFPD and IAFF Local 2441.
